As the Chinese saying goes, reading thousands of books is better than travelling thousands of miles. In order to thoroughly implement the National Medium and Long-term Educational Reform and Development Project Summary, continue to promote the reform of basic education curriculum, and implement the school’s educational philosophy of “to become a man through the pursuit of ambition, and to handle affairs through the pursuit of knowledge”, with the support of Sinoway Carbon (Shandong) Co., Ltd., 14 excellent teachers and students from Binhai Senior High School started a study travel of “Knowing and doing in Nanjing - a beautiful encounter between me and universities”.

In this study travel, students visited three famous universities, including Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. By entering the university campus, students can feel the cultural heritage and humanity of famous universities in Nanjing.

In order to have a deeper understanding of the cultural atmosphere of colleges and universities, the students also exchanged views with doctoral students and international teachers of Nanjing University during the visit. A doctoral student described her learning process and told the students to persist in studying and solving problems in their weak subjects every day rather than having nothing to do, and then taught the students ways to calm down. Through the narration of the doctor, students deeply realized that success is not achieved at one stroke, but requires perseverance and hard work.

With the advancement of the study travel, the students came to Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Under the teacher’s explanation, the students learned for the first time about four-rotor and eight-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles, including the use and simple operation methods of unmanned aerial vehicles. The students were full of interest, and under the teacher’s guidance, they made their own airplane models.

At Nanjing University of Science and Technology, the teacher explained the history of bachelor’s gown to the students, which made them realize that it not only represents the end of a period of study, but also has the profound cultural connotation. At the end of the study travel, the students put on the bachelor’s gowns, and took their graduation photos, like traveling through a time tunnel to the graduation day seven years later. This is also a good sustenance and wish for the students, hoping that they can enter their ideal universities in the future.

Then, the students came to Nanjing Museum and Nanjing S&T Museum. The Nanjing Museum is located next to the Zhongshan Gate. Viewed from afar, it has an antique flavor. When the students walked into the gate of the Nanjing Museum, it seemed as if they were back to five hundred years ago. The museum shows the wisdom and sweat of the ancient Chinese working people.

From Nanjing Museum to Nanjing S&T Museum, students seem to have walked through the corridor of time, crossing from the past to the future. S&T Museum is like a huge treasure house of scientific knowledge. Exhibition halls with different themes, including the exploration of the universe, the myriad phenomena of the earth, intelligent masters, and the creation of heaven and earth, enable students to wander in the ocean of technology.

“Past experience, if not forgotten, is a guide for the future”. The Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall reminds us not to forget national humiliation, and we should cherish peace and revitalize China.

In Yuhuatai Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall, the flames of the ever-burning lamps in front of the bronze statues of the martyrs were collected from the top of Taishan Mountain, meaning that the lives of the martyrs are weightier than Taishan Mountain, and symbolizing the spirit of the martyrs, which is handed down from age to age. It allows students to realize that today’s happy life was at the cost of blood of revolutionary martyrs, and they should cherish their current life, strive to learn scientific and cultural knowledge, and contribute their own strength to the motherland.

In addition, the students also visited the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and the Nanjing Presidential Palace. Dr. Sun Yat-sen is a revolutionary pioneer and a hero who saved the fate of the Chinese nation. Students have realized that only by closely linking everyone’s destiny with the destiny of the motherland and the destiny of the nation, and linking personal ideals with the great cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, can the motherland become more prosperous and stronger.

The study travel begins with anticipation and ends with harvest. The students who have ideals left beautiful footprints with sweat and smiles. This study travel strengthened the students’ ideals and beliefs, increased their knowledge, cultivated their tastes, and made them feel the rich historical and cultural heritage. Besides, they also received a lot of patriotic education, which benefited them a lot to determine to become contemporary talents who are responsible for national rejuvenation!
